EVSC to Update Board on Negotiations

Officials from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation will meet privately with the school board Monday evening, to discuss the latest contract negotiations.

EVSC negotiators met with officials from Teamsters Local 215 for a collective bargain session over the weekend.

A news release from the EVSC says its team remained firm on two issues: that no employee should be forced to pay a fee for union representation and that the school board will not “negotiate away” its responsibility to make critical financing and personnel decisions.

The Teamsters union says it’s made proposals that include a 10-day withdraw period during which fee payers or union members could opt out of union membership. The union is also seeking a three-person panel -- including a union rep -- to take part in employee grievance procedures.

The union represents about 680 EVSC employees, including bus drivers, bus aides, secretaries, custodians, and special education assistants. Their contracts expired two months ago.
