EVSC working to address day care shortage

A number of parents dropped their kids off on the first day of school, expecting to enroll them in the EVSC’s Extended Day program. But many parents discovered there was no room in the after-school program.

Jesika Ellis of Evansville tells WNIN that she enrolled her daughter Margo in the program at Harper Elementary School in the middle of last school year. So she was surprised to find the program had no room for her this year.

Margo was put on a waiting list.

EVSC Spokeswoman Marsha Jackson says several staff members needed for the Extended Day program left their positions in recent days, while the number of students requesting the service increased.

Jackson says the corporation is employing part time workers on a temporary basis, while working to quickly employ new full-time staff for the program.

She says the situation should be resolved within a few days.
