Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is proposing more than a half-million dollars in sidewalk repairs.
Winnecke says in a news release that an existing $550,000 in the 2015 budget should be used for sidewalk repairs and improvements throughout the city.
He says improving sidewalks is an “important commitment” to taxpayers, especially to make Evansville a more “walkable” city.
Winnecke’s administration wants to transfer $300,000 from the Barrett Law Sidewalk Fund, which comes from residents who pitch-in on infrastructure projects.
The administration also wants to use nearly $250,000 from a general obligation revenue bond for sidewalks in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
The administration will present its proposal to the City Council later this month.
Some council members have been expressing concerns about the city’s finances under Winnecke, and have called for cuts in spending.
