Fifth Third selling, consolidating 100 branches

Fifth Third Bank plans to sell or consolidate about 100 branches.

A news release from Fifth Third says the Cincinnati-based banking firm will also sell or consolidate 30 other properties.

The moves come amid a continuing consumer shift to online banking.

A Fifth Third spokesman tells Inside Indiana Business that specific locations that will be sold or consolidated have not been identified.

The bank operates more than 1,300 branches in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and nine other states.

Fifth Third has 16 branches in the immediate Evansville-Henderson area.

Chief Executive Officer Kevin Kubat says consumer demographics and customers' preferred channels of banking are undergoing “significant changes."

He says – quote – “technology continues to impact our service delivery and revenue generation tactics and strategies."
