The director of the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library is retiring.
Marcia Au has served as CEO and Director of the library system since 1996.
Under her guidance, the EVPL opened the new Central Library in 2004. She also oversaw construction of the new Oaklyn and North Park branches and the renovation of five others.
A news release from the library system says Evansville’s public libraries received numerous awards during Au’s tenure, including seven consecutive Library Journal Star ratings, a Top Ten designation from Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings, and numerous Leadership Evansville awards.
Au herself has received the Distinguished Hoosier Award, was named Library Advocate of the Year, and serves on numerous library and community boards and committees.
Au plans to step down as library director July 17th.
