McCurdy on endangered list

Indiana Landmarks has placed Evansville’s McCurdy Hotel on a list of the state's most endangered historic places.

Metro Development Director Kelly Coures tells WNIN that owner Ben Kunkel is making progress on a long-delayed renovation.

The city’s redevelopment commission took action this week to allow the Kunkel Group to use an adjacent city-owned parking lot so crews can remove a storage tank from under the McCurdy.

The hotel opened in 1917. It’s been vacant since 2008.

Other buildings on Indiana Landmarks’ endangered list include the the Elks Lodge in Bedford, the Rivoli Theater and the Indiana Medical History Museum in Indianapolis, and Camp Chesterfield – between Indy and Muncie.
