Many Evv residents deal with second-hand smoke

Many people who live in apartments and other multi-family housing in Evansville are dealing with second-hand smoke.

Dr. Mark Travers of the Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, says a new survey shows just 14-percent of residents in multi-unit homes in Evansville live in a smoke-free building.

He tells WNIN that some communities have banned smoking in multi-family housing. Others require landlords to disclose smoking policies.

Travers will discuss the data -- and possible next steps -- with a panel of local experts during a Smokefree Communities luncheon at Central Library’s Browning Room from noon to 1:00 p.m. Thursday.

The event is open to the public. Residents and managers of multi-unit housing are especially encouraged to attend.
