The City of Evansville is starting its annual campaign to fill potholes earlier than usual.
The city’s Pothole Blitz is usually held in April, but the Winnecke administration says it’s starting the effort now because winters storms and heavy rain have created “more frequent” holes in the pavement.
A news release from Winnecke says extra crews have been assigned to “pothole patrols” and residents are encouraged to report potholes on city streets.

Mayor Winnecke says “while we are still officially in winter, I feel it is important to get a jump on fixing potholes before spring.”
Winnecke’s likely opponent in the November election, Gail Riecken, cited road conditions last month when she announced she was running for mayor.
