Biden, Clinton among Ford mourners

Vice President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton were among hundreds who attended the funeral for former U.S. Senator Wendell Ford.

The funeral for the former senator and Kentucky governor was held at First Baptist Church in Owensboro on Tuesday.

The Henderson Gleaner reports Biden called Ford "the most effective legislative leader I have ever worked with."

Clinton said Ford was in charge of his presidential inauguration, and recalled that Ford's was the "very first voice” he ever heard saying he was president.

Ford died last week at the age of 90, after a battle with lung cancer.

The Democrat served four terms in the Senate, before retiring in 1999. He was governor of Kentucky from 1971-to-1974.

Following Ford’s funeral, Biden stopped at Luce Elementary School in Spencer County and spoke to students and the principal, before he returned to Air Force Two at Evansville Regional Airport.
