A long-time Evansville legislator says “we have our work cut out for us” when it comes to securing more funding for the planned IU Medical School.
State Senator Vaneta Becker says the local delegation is trying to nail down the size and scope of the project, since Ivy Tech has requested a larger classroom building for the downtown campus.
Becker and State Representative Gail Riecken told the WNIN Lawmakers TV program they’re confident the legislature will get the information it needs.
Governor Mike Pence has proposed $19.2 million for the med school, but that only covers IU’s portion of the project.
Becker says the local delegation will lobby to secure more funding.
