Winnecke files for second term

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has filed for re-election.

Winnecke was greeted by a packed hallway of supporters in the Civic Center Monday, as the mayor made his way to the Election Office.

He entered the office, signed on the dotted line, and then addressed his supporters in the hallway.

Winnecke delivered a litany of accomplishments, including what he called putting the city’s finances “in good condition,” spending less than the city council appropriates, steady bond ratings, and “two consecutive clean audits” from the State Board of Accounts.

Winnecke also touted infrastructure projects, most notably the Lloyd-Highway 41 cloverleaf which will remove two sets of stoplights from the expressway.

And he noted that Governor Pence has proposed more than $19 million for the Indiana University medical school planned for Downtown.

The Republican mayor filed for re-election two days after Democratic State Representative Gail Rieckenannounced she was seeking her party’s nomination for mayor.
