More than 100 supporters of Evansville Police gathered on the steps of the Civic Center Monday.
It was part of a rally to unite residents around the local police force, in the wake of two police deaths in New York City.
Pastor Carl Mann opened the gathering with a blessing, praying for “not a white America, not a black American, not an Asian America, not a Hispanic America, but America.”
City Council members Jonathan Weaver and Missy Mosby, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, and Congressman Larry Buschon also spoke at the event.
Local singer Gina Moore was one of the few African Americans in attendance. She performed and also said she’s upset by growing violence in the community.
