The planned reconstruction of North Main Street has advanced to the Evansville City Council.
The Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously to finalize purchase agreements along North Main to develop more off-street parking.
The plan includes a protected bike path, streetscape improvements, and a new parking map.
The properties purchased by the city include a former Integra bank branch and the site of a former CVS store. The city will demolish the bank building but keep the former drug store and make it available for non-profits and the Jacobsville community.
The total purchase price of the lots was about $900,000. The cost is to be included in a $13 million construction bond, which needs the City Council’s approval. The vote could come as soon as February.
