Winnecke OK with a residency ordinance

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is open to the idea of requiring appointees to city boards to live within the city limits.

Winnecke says he hasn’t seen a specific proposal yet from the City Council, but if such an ordinance passes the council, he’ll follow it.

He tells the Courier and Press – quote -- “It’s not a bad concept.” He says his administration believes there’s a “strong talent pool both inside and outside the city limits.”

City Councilwoman Connie Robinson says she’s working on a residency requirement ordinance. Currently, 56 local board appointees by Winnecke and eight by City Council live outside Evansville.

The mayor’s office says those appointees are out of 188 slots.

The terms of several board appointments end December 31st.
