I-164 changing to I-69

I-1-64 will soon be a thing of the past, sort of.

The highway is getting a new name.

INDOT crews and contractors will soon replace Interstate 164 signs in Vanderburgh and Warrick counties with new Interstate 69 signage.

The highway will become the southern leg of the I-69 project in Indiana.

INDOT says the conversion will update about 70 large signs at or near exits and the smaller, blue signs posted at bridges and every two tenths of a mile.

INDOT anticipates all 21 miles of the highway will be renamed by the end of this year, weather permitting. The agency is urging businesses and other organizations to update their signage, maps and directions.

Drivers should also be alert to short-term lane closures as crews work along the interstate and the roads that connect with it.
