It’s another step toward redesigning North Main Street.
The Evansville Redevelopment Commission has approved a $13 million design that includes a bike path from Division Street to Garvin Park, repaving, new sidewalks, greenery, parking lots, and new light fixtures.
The planned bike path would remove on-street parking on the east side of Main between Franklin and Maryland streets.
Some businesses were concerned about that loss, but Metro Development Director Kelly Coures told WNIN’s The Trend last week that the lost spaces will be more than made up for in new off-street lots.
The next step in the project is a construction plan. Funding for the work will require city council approval.
