Unusually cold weather to stick around

This blast of cold weather is expected to last through the weekend and into next week.

The National Weather Service office in Paducah says you have to go back to 1997 to find a stretch of weather this cold, this early in the season.

The official start of winter is more than five weeks away, but sub-freezing low temperatures are expected to continue in the Evansville area.

There’s even a chance of snow flurries Saturday night into Sunday. And the long-range forecast predicts below-average temperatures well into next week.

The system that’s brought this cold snap to our region and heavy snow to the upper Midwest is the remnants of Typhoon Nuri. The storm hit Alaska's Aleutian Islands with hurricane-strength winds last weekend.
