More Catholic parishes merging

More mergers are planned for parishes in the Evansville Catholic Diocese.

Bishop Charles Thompson has announced that 15 parishes will be merged into six, starting in April 2015.

In Evansville, St. Joseph will merge with St. Anthony, Holy Trinity will join Saints Mary and John, and St. Theresa will merge with Good Shepherd.

The news comes one year after Bishop Thompson and other officials announced that 24 parishes in southwest Indiana would be affected by consolidation. When completed, the 24 affected parishes by that first announcement will be consolidated into 10.

No churches will be closed, but Diocese Chief Operating Officer Tim McGuire tells the Evansville Courier and Press “the parishes needed to be configured to best support the faithful as we move forward.”
