Results are in from the latest audit of Evansville’s finances.
Evansville's state audit for 2013 presents an overall unqualified opinion about the condition of city finances. That’s the best finding the city could receive, although it does cite material weakness and an adverse opinion in specific areas.
The release of the 2013 audit by the State Board of Accounts comes just five months after the same document for 2012 was issued following a lengthy delay. That audit contained many of the same findings.
Evansville changed accounting software systems in 2011, and the city struggled with the transition, causing accounts to be out of balance for many months.
Findings in the 2013 show some of those problems persist, but City Council President John Friend tells the Courier and Press that "overall it's unqualified, and that's good for the taxpayers of Evansville.
