Solar storm could cause trouble

The science director at the Evansville Museum is keeping an eye on what scientists are calling an extreme solar storm heading toward Earth.

Mitch Luman tells WNIN News it’s hard to predict whether or not the storm will cause much trouble on the planet.

Luman says the solar magnetic field can change the storm’s course and lessen the effects on earth.

The storm is considered extreme on forecasters' scale, but just barely. And while it may knock off power grids, damage satellites, and disrupt radio transmissions, it can also expand the northern lights.
