Former mayoral candidate Rick Davis remembered

Former Evansville mayoral candidate Rick Davis has died, after being on life support since Monday.

His family announced Wednesday that Davis’s organs were being harvested, as he had requested. Later, he was pronounced dead.

Davis was only 45 and had suffered from Crohn’s Disease. He was taken to the hospital this week with complications from a recent surgery.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, who defeated Davis in the 2011 election, has issued a statement, offering condolences to Davis’s wife, family and friends. Winnecke says “the sadness at his untimely passing is shared with those who knew him well, by our city and all of Vanderburgh County.” Winnecke says Davis will be remembered “fondly and with gratitude for his years of leadership.”

Davis served as County Treasurer and led the effort to defeat city-county consolidation.
