Pence fields questions in Evansville

Governor Mike Pence heard from a number of same-sex marriage supporters during a town hall-style meeting in Downtown Evansville.

The governor fielded about 15 questions from a crowd of more than 50 people during the lunch hour session at Central Library.

Three of the questions came from supporters of same-sex marriage. Pence told them he’s a strong supporter of traditional marriage, but assured them that he will uphold the law if the Supreme Court changes it.

Evansville City Council President John Friend asked Pence if he would support allowing existing gaming boats – like Evansville’s Tropicana boat -- to move inland. Pence told Friend he doesn’t want to expand or reduce gaming, and will keep an “open mind” on land-based gaming.

Pence also pledged to fight what he calls the federal government’s “war on coal,” while supporting new renewable energy sources. He says when it comes to energy, he’s an all-of-the-above type guy.
