City Council works on budget

The Evansville City Council has begun hearings on next year’s city budget.

The budget plan, combined with that of the Water & Sewer Utility, projects about $326 million in revenue and $325 million in expenses. Revenue from Tropicana Evansville is expected to drop, from $13.5 million to $12.6 million.

The Courier and Press reports Mayor Winnecke’s proposed 2015 budget includes $1.8 million for street paving and $1.5 million for Roberts Park development.

Last year, the city council left out funding for the park planned at the former site of Roberts Stadium.

The budget also includes a two-percent raise for most of the city’s 1,180 employees.

The council will hear from the mayor and the head of each city department during the hearings this week.
