The health department says it’s found evidence of West Nile virus in Evansville, and will soon begin spraying to control mosquitoes.
A news release from the Vanderburgh County Health Department says two sample pools of mosquitoes from a “surveillance trap” within the city contained the virus.
Crews will spray adulticide Wednesday evening between 8 p.m. and midnight, weather permitting, in an area bound by Harriet Street, Tennessee Street, North Garvin Street, and Franklin Street.
The Health Department suggests you limit time outdoors between dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are most active, wear light colored clothing, pants, and long sleeves when possible, and use insect repellant.
Officials also urge you to make sure your property is free of standing water, which could provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry the virus.
