It’s a step forward for a planned pedestrian bridge over the Lloyd Expressway at Vann Avenue.
The Board of Public Works has voted to seek construction services for the planned bridge near the State Hospital grounds. Construction is expected to begin next year.
The bridge has been talked about for several years. It will connect Wesselman Park, the State Hospital grounds, and the planned Roberts Park at the former site of Roberts Stadium – a project that’s currently on hold.
During site work for the pedestrian bridge, crews discovered 31 unmarked graves on the State Hospital grounds. The remains were exhumed and reburied at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Officials tell the Evansville Courier and Press that don’t expect the project to disturbed any more graves, but an archeological firm will be on call.
