A federal judge has struck down Indiana's ban on same-sex marriage.
U.S. District Judge Richard Young of Evansville ruled the state's ban violates the U.S. Constitution's equal-protection clause because it treats couples differently based no their sexual orientation.
The Indiana Attorney General's Office says it will appeal the ruling.
The clerk in Marion County, home to Indianapolis, says the office will start issuing marriage licenses immediately. Vanderburgh County Clerk Debbie Stucki did not immediately return a call from the Courier & Press seeking comment. Warrick County Clerk Warrick County Clerk Sarah Redman said the ruling would not immediately affect how her office operates until she has clearer understanding of the decision and guidance from the state officials.
