D-Patrick could get tax break for moving

D-Patrick Ford could receive city incentives if the dealership relocates to Highway 41 and Walnut.

The Evansville City Council has declared a seven-acre site at the intersection as an economic development target area, which makes a business investing there eligible for a phase-in of property taxes.

D-Patrick Ford is leaving its Downtown lot to make way for the planned Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville campus.

The Courier and Press reports the City Council voted 8-0 to suspend normal procedure and pass all three readings of a resolution designating the area for economic development.

The council also passed first reading of an ordinance that would rezone the residential area for commercial use.

A hearing on the rezoning is scheduled for the Area Plan Commission meeting on July 10th. The City Council's final readings are planned for July 14th .
