River Sweep Saturday

Volunteers all along the Ohio River will  tidy-up the riverbanks this weekend.

The 25th Ohio River Sweep will be held on Evansville’s riverfront this Saturday, June 21st.

The sweep attracts people from cities and counties all along the nearly 1000-mile river to clean up designated sections of the waterway, and some of its tributaries.

Local coordinator Lisa Cochran tells the Courier and Press the volunteer effort is an “an exceptional opportunity to see first hand the amazing resource that is the Ohio River.”

The Vanderburgh County Sweep starts at 8:30 Saturday morning at the Four Freedoms Monument. Posey County will conduct a clean-up of Mount Vernon’s riverfront, also at 8:30 Saturday.

T-shirts, drinks, gloves, and bags will be provided and volunteers must sign waivers to participate. Persons under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
