The president of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission has stepped down.
Ed Hafer resigned from the commission, telling the Evansville Courier and Press that he has “too much on his plate” to stay on the board. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke appointed the long-time architect to the commission when he took office in 2012.
Winnecke says Hafer has played a major role in the development of Downtown Evansville, including the planned convention hotel and the Indiana University medical school.
Winnecke says Hafer put the two huge projects “on the launching pad.” The mayor also presented Hafer with a ceremonial key to the city.
Winnecke has named Vernon Stevens to Hafer’s seat on the commission. Stevens is co-owner and vice president of Southern Business Machines, Inc.
Board vice president Randy Alsman will take over Hafer’s presidential role.
