Greer to seek County Commission Seat

The former head of the local emergency management agency is running for Vanderburgh County Commissioner.

Democrat Sherman Greer will face Republican nominee Bruce Ungethiem on the November ballot for the Commission’s District 2 seat.

The 66-year-old Greer served as director of the Evansville-Vanderburgh Emergency Management Agency from 1990 to 2013. Mayor Winnecke asked for his resignation last year, citing issues with overtime pay and purchasing records in the EMA.

Ungethiem defeated incumbent Marsha Abell in the May 6th GOP primary. No Democrat filed for the race.

State election rules allow parties to fill vacancies on a general election ballot by June 30th.

It will be Greer’s first run for an elected office.
