Destructive fire called suspicious

A fire that destroyed two houses and damaged two other buildings in Evansville is described as “suspicious.”

The Fire Department says the two-alarm blaze started in a vacant wood-frame house at 804 Line Street at about 7:40 Thursday night, and quickly spread to neighboring houses. A man living in one of the next-door houses was able to get out safely. The other house was vacant. The blaze also damaged a nearby vacant apartment building.

Fire Investigator Richard Howard tells the Courier and Press that the blaze is “definitely suspicious.” He says another fire was intentionally set at the Line St. address in December.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to extinguish the flames Thursday night.
