Snow and ice close schools, slicken roads

The Tri-State is slipping, sliding, and digging out after a late-season winter storm.

Old Man Winter dropped 2-to-3 inches of snow on top of ice in the Evansville area from Sunday morning to Monday morning. Slippery road conditions prompted most school systems in the area to cancel classes on Monday. Officials even closed UE, USI, and Ivy Tech in Evansville.

EVSC schools had already added an hour to the school day during the past week to make up for an earlier snow day. They now face another day lost to winter weather.

The snow and ice should start melting in earnest Tuesday, when the temperature is forecast to rise above freezing. The mercury should reach the 40’s by mid-week, and top the 50-degree mark – which is about normal for this time of year – by the end of the work week.
