Many Evansville bars and private clubs are staying smoke-free, despite a court ruling that overturned the city’s ban.
Of the 28 bars clubs that sued the city to overturn the 2012 smoking ban, at least 13 have opted to stay smoke-free.
Steve Alsop is president of the Vanderburgh County Tavern Owners Association and owner of the Peephole Bar & Grill on Main Street. He says the Peep is returning to a smoke-free policy, after two weeks of allowing indoor smoking. He tells the Evansville Courier and Press that it was a business decision that several bars have made.
Of the eight private clubs that filed suit, at least six are smoke-free. Meantime, the Tavern Owners Association is attempting to recoup losses from the smoking ban.
