A bill that would ban anyone under the age of 16 from using a tanning bed has taken another step forward in the Indiana General Assembly.
The House Public Health Committee has voted to advance the measure to the full Indiana House. It would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 16 to use a tanning bed at a tanning salon. 16 and 17 year olds would be able to tan with written permission from a parent.
Currently, those younger than 16 can use tanning beds if a parent is present, and those 16 to 18 can tan alone with written permission from a parent or guardian.
The bill passed the state senate last month.
