Braun Urges Senate Colleagues To Confirm Coney-Barrett

Indiana’s Junior Senator says President Trump’s nominee to replace Ruth Bader-Ginsburg on the Supreme Court should be confirmed soon.

President Trump nominated former Notre Dame law professor and current circuit judge Amy Coney Barrett in September.  She appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for hearings on October 12th.

“I see her being steadfast and rooted in judicial principles.” Republican Senator Mike Braun said during a zoom call with Americans For Prosperity.

AFP is a right leaning think tank that is pushing the Senate to confirm Coney-Barrett.

Braun says after a 30 minute meeting with Coney Barrett, he believes she won’t legislate from the bench once confirmed.

“It’s tangible to think that Amy Coney Barrett is going to be an exception to what we’ve normally seen once you get there.”

Braun said he is most impressed that Coney-Barrett reflects the judicial philosophy of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, whom she clerked under.

Republicans currently hold 53 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate, Braun expects there are enough votes for a successful confirmation of Judge Barrett.
