The City of Evansville has received federal help to battle the opioid epidemic among young people.
In a release, the city said the Opioid Affected Youth Initiative award is a three-year, $1 million federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said the grant will “connect affected young people to the services and support they need to be healthy and drug-free.”
The Mayor’s Substance Abuse Task Force and Youth First, Inc. have developed a project to implement data-informed, coordinated responses to the opioid problem and other drug problems that impact the safety and well-being of young people.
The city says area hospitals and government agencies are collaborating in the effort called Restoring Every Affected Child’s Hope or REACH.
