Consumer complaints top 15,000 in Indiana

Hoosiers filed more than 15,000 complaints with the Indiana Attorney General’s Office last year, and auto-related concerns topped the list.

The attorney general’s office says about 1,000 complaints about used auto sales and auto service were filed in 2013, followed closely by complaints about retail sales. Home repair and construction jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 on the list.

Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office also fielded hundreds on complaints about debt collection, fraud and scams, Internet sales and service, consumer lending, identity theft, health services, and telephone and TV service providers.

Zoeller says in a news release that complaints about retail sales and home contractors were the fastest-growing categories. Consumer tips and complaint forms are available online at IndianaConsumer.com.
