In last week’s Primary Election three Henderson County Fiscal Court incumbents lost their bids for a Republican Nomination to newcomers.
One was the highest elected position in the county government — the Judge Executive.
Brad Schneider has been on the Fiscal Court for 10 years. As Judge Executive, he oversees the Fiscal Court, the legislative governing body of the county, like the County Commission in Indiana.
But Newcomer Timothy Dunn secured the GOP nomination for Judge Executive with 47 votes.
A self described “non-politician,” Dunn said the position of Judge Executive is important.
“Because obviously that's where you deal with all money coming in, all money going out. I think that people are now concerned about that, but it's not just that.”
He said it’s also about residents being heard. Dunn felt this wasn’t happening under the current fiscal court.
“People go for so long, they're just ready for something different,” Dunn said. “So, when I came in, not being a politician, and speaking for people, listening to people, then that's the change right there.”
Schenieder said he felt residents had adequate room to voice their opinions.
Two incumbent Fiscal Court Magistrates — Keith Berry and Taylor Tomkins — also lost their bids for a GOP nomination. Dunn will face Democrat ‘Les’ Jenkins-Mackey in November.
