Indiana releases graduation rates

The overall high school graduation rate didn’t change much in Indiana last year, but Evansville’s public schools saw a slight drop.

Indiana’s overall graduation rate in 2013 was 88.6 percent, a decrease of one-tenth of percent compared to 2012.

But the non-waiver graduation rate, which is considered a better measuring tool for student progress, improved by more than 1 percent.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s overall gradation rate fell from 82.8 percent in 2012 to 81.9 last year.

Warrick County schools saw a more than 3-percent increase to 91.5 percent. The graduation rate in the Mount Vernon school district fell to 82.4 percent, compared to 83.7 percent last year. And North Posey schools enjoyed a 94.8 percent graduation rate, up more than 2 percent from 2012.

Parochial and private schools posted the best numbers. The graduation rate for the Evansville Catholic Diocese improved slightly from last year with a rate of 98.9 percent. And both Day School and Signature School graduated 100 percent of their seniors.
