Wathan high on fertilizer plant, area economy

The head of a local economic development group says he’s pleased the State of Indiana is reconsidering support for a huge plant in Posey County.

The state is reopening talks with Midwest Fertilizer and Fatima Group about possible incentives to build the multi-billion dollar fertilizer plant.

Greg Wathen of the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana tells Inside Indiana Business that it’s good to have the state involved.

Governor Pence initially stayed away from negotiating with the Fatima Group, over concerns that the company’s fertilizer could be used for improvised bombs in the Middle East.

Wathen also points to the med school and convention hotel projects -- as well as I-69 -- for economic progress.
