The former Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation administration building, stands to be reinvented as a restaurant, credit union, office space and fitness center. A 9-0 Evansville City Council vote Monday OK’d a zoning change enabling the project to move forward.
The building, abandoned three years ago when the school district moved its offices to a Walnut Street building, is to undergo about $2 million dollars in interior and exterior renovations. The project’s developer is Scott Danks, the City Council’s attorney. Danks said an alcoholic beverage license will be sought for the property, because the restaurant would like the ability to serve drinks.
The Courier and Press reports the project is on a quick timeline. Interior work has started, and Danks said his law office and other tenants will start moving in by April. He said the atrium, parking lot, restaurant and fitness facility are to be completed by the end of the summer, and full occupancy is anticipated by October 1st.
