Frigid Commute Monday

Steve Burger

Monday, with record cold temperatures possible, most schools and many businesses closed for the day in the Tri-State. So, we recorded our morning commute to show you what it's like for those who have to work while many were snug in their beds this morning.

The National Weather Service at Paducah has a wind chill warning for northern parts of the WNIN listening area until 9am Tuesday. The next change for a wintry mix of precipitation looks to be on Wednesday.

The Indiana legislature will not open its session today. Indiana Governor Mike Pence ordered all state offices closed Monday due to the heavier snow and blizzard-like conditions in the central and northern parts of Indiana.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says that the Civic Center Complex will be open today for normal business hours. So Evansville city and Vanderburgh County offices will be open today, including the courts although they say you should expect some delays.

Driving conditions in the Commonwealth are a little better.  Kentucky State Police in Henderson report no weather related incidents at all overnight. The Transporation Cabinet reports that roads are being treated, but to watch out for scattered slick spots.

My mechanic father always claimed he could tell the make, model and perhaps even the year of a vehicle just by listening to it starting up in the cold. Here's a clip of my trusty chariot, firing up early Monday morning. Message me if you think you know the answer.
