The city of Owensboro says a $50 million investment will create downtown rowhouses and riverfront units

Officials have announced what they call the largest residential investment ever in downtown Owensboro. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The city says Owensboro Downtown Properties is making a 50-million dollar investment, with plans to build 205 new homes.

The largest tract will turn several blocks along East 2nd Street, east of the Blue Bridge, into a new neighborhood with 165 row houses.

Restaurants and shops are also planned to make it a “walkable community.”

Another part of the plan calls for 40 riverfront units overlooking Smothers Park.

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson says what started as a revitalization of the city’s riverfront has had an “incredible ripple effect” downtown.

He says he’s excited for “what’s to come.”
