Mesker Park Zoo is welcoming four newborns. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Zoo and Botanic Garden says its Chacoan peccary family has grown by four.
Officials say at the end of September, one new peccary was born to first time mom Marcie and dad Curly, and mom Uno welcomed two adorable additions shortly after with dad Curly.
The newest arrival was welcomed by mom Aspen at the beginning of October.
Peccaries are sometimes called javelinas or skunk pigs.
They’re covered in coarse, dark bristly hair with a circular snout, small ears, and a small tail.
They can grow to more than 80 pounds.
The zoo says peccary families are close-knit, with all adults participating in caring for offspring, so all the adults have been helping each other with tending to the new family members.
