Officials say two lanes of traffic are open in each direction on the Twin Bridges as work begins on a damaged support beam. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says crews worked around the clock last week to expedite construction of a median crossover in Henderson.
It will allow one lane of southbound traffic to temporarily use the northbound bridge.
The right lane of the southbound bridge remains closed after a follow-up inspection identified damage to a support beam under that lane.
The Transportation Cabinet says repairs to the beam are expected to take about a month.
Officials note the new traffic configuration has been used in the past during extended lane closures on the Twin Bridges.
The cabinet says the configuration is designed to minimize delays and reduce traffic backups on both sides of the Ohio River while repairs are underway.
