The East Lloyd has reopened a gas leak shut down the expressway, forced evacuations, and prompted shelter-in-place orders. WNIN’s John Gibson has a recap:
A construction crew at the Lloyd and Cross Point Blvd. struck what was described as a major gas line Tuesday afternoon.
The spewing gas forced authorities to shut down all lanes of the Lloyd between Burkhardt Road and Epworth Road, evacuate nearby businesses, and issue shelter in place orders.
The dangerous incident restricted buses and foot traffic leaving Plaza Park Middle School.
Traffic from Harrison High School was allowed to travel east only as far as Burkhardt.
CenterPoint Energy crews eventually capped the leak, the gas dissipated, and authorities were able to reopen the Lloyd and drop shelter in place orders by 6:30 p.m.
