It's official: Amazon is considering a data center in Posey County. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
Attorney Mike Schopmeyer, representing the tech giant, spoke to the Posey County Area Plan Commission Thursday night.
He noted the company has lifted a non-disclosure agreement and is looking at a new site:
"They're moving to a location, industrial related, closer to highways, away from the location before."
Speaking after numerous residents expressed concerns about data centers, Schopmeyer said some of it amounts to…
"Fear of change"
Schopmeyer promised a full public review process:
"Community outreach will probably kick-in in about 30 days. There will be a website. A lot of the questions...a lot of the points that have been raised here are very legitimate and they will be addressed."
Schopmeyer expressed support for his client:
"AWS or Amazon is the gold standard in terms of data centers. And I'm proud that they're looking at our region and we should be too."
The public hearing on amending county ordinances for such a facility was continued to Oct. 1 at the Hovey House in Mount Vernon.
