The Perry Township Fire Department raised a large American flag along Evansville's West Lloyd Expressway to observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11

An annual tradition continued Friday in western Vanderburgh County. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Every year since the 9/11 Attacks, the Perry Township Fire Department has hoisted a huge American flag above the West Lloyd Expressway.

This year, a ladder truck raised the flag on the Logan’s Roadhouse parking lot at the intersection of the Lloyd and Boehne Camp Road.

In the past, crews raised the big flag above the overpass at USI but ongoing construction along the West Lloyd has forced the department to change the location.

On its Facebook page, the department says “25 years later, we still remember.”

343 firefighters died at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

The Perry Township Department says those firefighters answered the call, ran toward the danger, and gave their lives in service to others.

Officials in New York say many more first responders have succumbed to illnesses caused by toxic air at ground zero.
