Officials say a house fire on Evansville’s East Side was caused by an overloaded power strip. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 17-hundred block of Southfield Road, off Covert Avenue, yesterday (Wed) afternoon.
The blaze started in an attached garage and spread to the two-story home.
Residents and pets got out safely.
Fire investigators determined the blaze was caused by an overloaded power strip that failed.
They ruled the fire “accidental.”
The EFD reminds residents to always plug appliances into the type of wall outlet recommended by the manufacturer and never overload power strips or extension cords.
Crews extinguished the flames with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90’s and the heat index in the triple-digits.
