A big change is coming to Bosse Field when the Evansville Otters’ season ends. WNIN’s John Gibson has more on the plan:
Thousands of fans attended a recent Otters game at the 111-year-old ballpark, seeing one of the last games to be played on natural grass.
That’s because thee Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation – which owns Bosse Field – has approved installing artificial turf.
EVSC spokesman Jason Woebkenberg says it’s needed for spring high school games:
"By replacing the natural surface with turf and a new drainage system, it is going to allow us to have games there that would have been cancelled in the past."
Longtime Otters P.A. announcer Zane Clodfelder says he supports the plan despite some initial misgivings:
"Because the moment the EVSC stops investing in the ballpark the moment we risk losing Bosse Field."
Back at the ballpark, longtime fan Mike Singleton describes himself as “old school”…
"I still like grass and dirt on the ball diamond. I like real grass on the football field as well. I also like real grass on the soccer fields."
The Evansville Vanderburgh school board approved the two-point-one million dollar plan to install turf and update the drainage system in July.
